COMPASS LAB

Welcome to the COMPASS Lab,

where we work together to Cultivate Optimal and Meaningful Pathways for Adolescents’ Social-emotional Success.

Under the direction of Prof. Saetbyul (Clara) Kim at the University of Hong Kong, our lab is dedicated to advancing research on social and moral development, sustainable positive youth development, and civic and social-emotional learning in real educational settings using a psychological lens.

In COMPASS, we see children and adolescents not just as future workers or test-takers, but as whole persons whose well-being, relationships, and sense of purpose matter now.

By integrating theories from developmental and educational psychology with curriculum and instruction design and evidence-based interventions, we aim to co-create learning environments where young people can thrive, care for others, and contribute meaningfully to their communities.

Whether you are joining as a student, collaborator, or community partner, we invite you to bring your curiosity, compassion, and commitment to youth to this shared journey.

Together, we hope COMPASS will be a place where ideas are tested, values are lived out, and research becomes a pathway toward more just, caring, and flourishing schools and societies.
